How to Clean Beeswax Wraps:
Beeswax is naturally anti-bacterial so they don’t require a whole lot of cleaning or harsh detergents
To clean, simply rinse the wrap under cold running water and brush off any food residue with your hand or a soft cloth.
If you’ve been using the wrap to cover dairy products or messy foods you can always put about 1/4 tsp of mild soap (i.e. Liquid Castille soap) into your hand or on your cloth and give the wrap a wipe. Rinse off excess soap with cold water.
Cleaning Dos and Don’ts
- Do clean wraps under cold running water. Never use hot water as it will melt the beeswax off your wraps.
- Do avoid wrapping foods that are known to cause staining (i.e beets, pomegranetes, etc). Although stains are unsightly, they wont effect the effectiveness of your wraps.
- Don’t wash wraps in regular dish soap. Most dish soap is too harsh and will shorten the useful life of your beeswax wraps.
- Don’t use beeswax wraps to cover raw meat. Wraps cannot be washed at a high enough temperature to kill the bacteria on raw meat.
How to Dry Beeswax Wraps:
Because beeswax naturally repels water, beeswax food wraps dry very quickly.
After rinsing your wrap under cold water, give it a light shake or two over the sink to remove excess water. Allow the wrap to air dry by draping it over a faucet or by laying flat on your counter or in your dish drainer.
Do not wring or use a heat heat source to dry your wraps.
How to Store Beeswax Wraps:
After your beeswax food wraps are completely dry, simply fold them into a convenient size and place in kitchen drawer away from any heat sources.
